Driven by the mission of improving lives through English education, Relief Team One officially launched a free English training program for students at San Remigio, Cebu, Philippines on March 29. The program is tailored to teach basic English—concentrating on practical and conversational application.
Relief Team One CEO and Founder, Raymond Arana, highlights the role of strong English skills in opening doors to opportunities for the young learners.
“Good English allows students to get good-paying jobs in the city. It opens the door to prosperity for the younger generation and helps elevate their lives,” Arana stated.
Proficiency in English is widely recognized as a crucial factor for employment opportunities in the globalized job market. English serves as the primary language in international business, making strong English skills highly valued by employers across various industries. Studies have shown that employees with strong English skills tend to earn higher salaries compared to their non-English-speaking counterparts.
Furthermore, the program focuses on grassroots communities, especially those living below the poverty line. Relief Team One offers English education that is accessible and free for every learner. The organization believes in the potential of each child to advance in life with strong English skills.
Relief Team One Language Development Director, Judel Avellana, also emphasizes how the program extends beyond the individual progress of students.
“Strong English skills not only benefits the students, but also their families. As they qualify for quality jobs through competent English, they do not only improve their lives, but also elevate those of their families’,” Avellana explained.
Most of the students in the English training program also shared the common aspiration of improving their English skills to effectively communicate to and understand diverse people.
Jehara M. Pantinople, a Grade 10 student, who is part of the pioneering batch of the program conveyed her desire to become a confident English speaker. She dreams of becoming a lawyer one day.
“I want to be able to communicate better to others using English,” Pantinople expressed.
Though still in its initial phase, Relief Team One looks forward to expanding the reach of this initiative to more areas across Cebu and the Philippines.
